Thomas Ereú has kept the Venezuelan tradition of a focus on youth alive. Having made his international debut at 23 Ereú has been one of the main stays in this young Venezuelan side and has proven to be an able cohort of Ernardo Gomez, the team's star player.
While a new frilly hairstyle was taking a share of the spotlight at last year's World Championship, Ereú is starting to take more and more of the accolades and responsibility in his own right as Venezuela make a gradual impression on the world scene.
At 194 cm tall, he is very similar to Gomez, powerful in attack with a lethal serve and his combination with Gomez is one of the best partnerships to watch in action on the volleyball court.
But two of the best qualities he brings to the Venezuelan side is passion and energy. They are evident right throughout his game and provide a substantial lift to a team, which is ranked 17th in the world.
Ereú has already tasted a lot of international volleyball having started his club career in Argentina for Regatas Mendoza ahead of stints at Riyad of Saudi Arabia and Mantova in Italy before moving to PTV Malaga in Spain last year and judging by his current form Spain won't be the last league clambering for his services.
